Born November 17th 1974, in Hollywood California, to my Italian / Bavarian father George a comic artist and mother Irmelin a German born legal secretary. My parents divorced when I was just a year old, so I spend most of my early years with my mother in LA.


I went to Seeds Elementary then John Marshall High before dropping out of the LA Centre for Enriched Studies and moving to Germany with my grandparents. My name was Wilhelm Indenbirken, but it was changed to incorporated my fathers surname and my mothers favourite artist.


This helped me when I moved into TV commercials with the view to becoming an actor. My first role was at 14 for Matchbox cars, then in 1990 I was cast in Roseanne, Lassie, Santa Barbara and then but debut lead in Critters 3.


Later in 1993 I appeared opposite Johnny Depp in 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape'. My first directorial was 'The Quick And the Dead'. Then I replaced River Pheonix in Total Eclipse. Soon after was Baz Luhrmann's Romeo & Juliet. My next film sank before it was released !


It was in that film that I played a penniless Jack Dawson onboard the Titanic. Several films later including, The Beach, Gangs of New York and The Aviator. I finally received an Oscar earlier this year for my role in The Revenant. Who Am I ?
