I am approximately 4,500 years old. I am neither man or beast or building but I am all three. I am known as The Terrifying One or Father of the Dead


My name is derived from ancient Greek and the myth that I would strangle anyone who failed to answer my riddle. Despite my age I still, to this day stand guard over the Great King of the 4th Dynasty.


I am the largest of my kind standing 73.5 metres long, 19.3 metres wide and 20.22 metres high.I was built to honour Atum Hor en Akhet, and watch over the Old Kingdom capital city of Memphis.


The years have been hard on me, 4 and a half millennia of erosion have left me without the sense of smell or The need for a razor.


I was rediscovered by Thutmose the 4th and according to legend it made him King of Egypt in 1400 BC. I am one of the World's top tourist attractions along with the Menkaura, Khafre and Khufu pyramids. Who or what am I ?
