I was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on the 22nd May 1859, and was christened Arthur Ignatious, by my parents. I studied medicine at school and had my own Doctor practice in Wimple Street London in 1890.
In 1885 I married Mary Louise Hawkins, but sadly she died of tuberculosis a few years later and I re married. Jean Elizabeth Lackie. Between the two I fathered five children. I wrote 7 novels at this time including Professor Challanger, & The Lost World
I played as goalkeeper for Portsmouth Football Club in the late 1800's, and in the early 1900's played cricket alongside authors JM Barrie and AA Milne for Allahakbarries. It was they who encouraged me to give up my practice and continue with my writing.
I was knighted for my work as a Doctor during the Boer War, and stood twice as the Edinburgh Liberal Unionist member of Parliament. In 1907 my work help to establish the Court of Criminal Appeal. I continued to write and created the characters Brigadier Gerard, Captain Sharley, Detective Inspector Greg Lestrade and Sir Hugo, Sir Charles and Sir Henry Baskerville.
Before my death in July of 1930 age 71. I had left a legacy of literary characters such as Mrs Hudson, Jim Moriarty and Dr John Watson. Who all played a huge part in my master stroke – The Adventures and Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. Who am I ?
