Born in Portsmouth September 1925 to father William and mother Doreen, often known as Peg. I was christened Richard Henry.
During my short 54 year life I made some very memorable contributions to the small and silver screen, with my first stage performance in “For He's A Jolly Good Fellow” aged just 2 weeks old. From then on I travelled the variety show circuit with my parents.
I attended St Aloysius College until I was evacuated in 1940, and after moving to Ilfracombe. Later that year I teamed up with my friend Derek Altman. We performed songs on ukuleles and told jokes. I learned to play the drums and played jazz with Joe Daniels and the Hotshots.
In the early 40s I became a member of the Entertainments National Service Association. I met up with other like minded performers like, Harry Secombe, Sid James, Tony Hancock, Spike Milligan and Michael Bentine. In 54 I married for the first of four times to Anne Howe.
I have appeared in many famous films such as 'Casino Royale', 'What's New Pussycat', but it was in 'I'm All Right Jack', 'The Party' and 'Being There', that I made my mark along with my membership of the Goons and classic portrayal of Inspector Clouseau. Who am I
