I was born on August 16th 1958, in Bay City, Michigan. The eldest daughter of Silivo and Louise, my father was Italian and my mother was French Canadian. I have two older brothers one younger and two sisters. My nickname while growing up was Little Nonni.
I was a rebellious youngster, and despite achieving notoriety for my unconventional behaviour, I had a high grade point at school. I used to pull up my skirt at school so the boys could see my underwear. It didn't help me get a boyfriend probably because I never wore make up or shaved, I was a bit of a tomboy. Eventually though, I became a cheerleader at Rochester Adams High School.
After graduating, I received a dance scholarship to the University of Michigan School of Music Theatre and Dance. I took ballet too, but eventually dropped out and worked at Dunkin' Donuts. Later I went on a world tour as a backup singer and dancer for disco legend Patrick Hernandez. I formed a band The Breakfast Club and eventually signed a record deal as a solo artist with Sire Records.
In 1982 I release my first two singles 'Everybody' and 'Burning Up' and by 1983 had penned my first self titled album and move in with my record producer boyfriend John Jellybean Benitez. But it was my third single from the album that hit the headlines 'Holiday'. I was becoming a superstar famous for my
look and style. More albums and a few films later came marriage, well two of them anyway.
