I am an archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean on the Patagonian Shelf ?


With an area of 4,700 square miles, however I also have 776 smaller islands to my name. I have just over 3,000 inhabitants, including British, French, Gibraltarian and Scandinavian.


I was discovered back in the 16th century, by English Captain John Strong. My first inhabitants landed in 1764 making Port Louis and Port Egmont the first settlements.


I am a self governing British Overseas Territory and my main export is synthetic fibres and sheep farming for wool ?


My sovereignty has been disputed many times none more so than in 1982 when a British task force set our to liberate me from an advancing Argentinian invasion ?
