I am 68 feet tall and over 200 tons in weight, and for my age I look pretty good at over 3.500 years old. I am one of a pair. Although I am technically one of a fraternal quadruplet. I have un-identical twins, placed in other cities around the world.


The ruler of Egypt and Sudan Muhammad Ali presented me to the UK in 1819 in commemoration of the victories of Lord Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar and Sir Ralph Abercromby at the Battle of Alexandria in 1801.


It wasn't until 1877 that I was finally brought to the UK and placed in my current location, in the City of Westminster, near Embankment Station. Ironically that was the same year in which my twin was place in Central Park, New York. The other pair reside in Paris France and in Luxor Egypt.


All four of us were carved during the reign of the Egyptian Pharaoh Thutmoses the 3rd. We all share the same name, however we have no connection to our namesake as we were already over 1,000 years old when she came to be Queen.


All four of us are Ancient Egyptian Obelisks. We originated in Heliopolis around 1450 BC, cut from granite and brought from the quarries of Aswan. Our hieroglyphs were added 200 years later, by Ramesses II. However, you most certainly could not use us for sewing. Who or what am I ?
